When Your Inner Life Is Surrendered to Him, Everything Else Finds Its Order
Let no one tell you otherwise—your emotions matter. How you feel from one day to the next shapes how you move, how you respond, and what you build over time. But your emotions were never meant to lead you. God designed you to live from the inside out, with your life being shaped by Jesus Christ, not driven by whatever you feel in the moment. Every decision you make is forming something in you. And when faith and gratitude lead the way, you stay aligned with God’s Will and open to how Christ is working within you.
What You Allow In Will Either Resist or Respond to Christ
There is a reason the enemy works to interfere with your emotional state. It’s not random—it’s intentional. Because when your emotions are unsettled, your focus shifts, and it becomes harder to recognize what Jesus Christ is doing in you.
Your heart and mind do not stay neutral; they are responsive. They either yield to Christ or they react to circumstances. And over time, that response becomes a pattern.
This piece of wisdom is one we hear often, and rightly so because it’s so monumentally important. It’s Proverbs 4:23 (NLT), and it tells us, “Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.” Guarding your heart is not about it shutting down or putting up walls. It’s about making sure what lives in you is being shaped by Christ. Because whatever you allow to settle there will influence how you live.
Christ Is Forming You in the Moment You Choose Him
God makes it clear that our internal responses matter. A situation can either be strengthened or made worse depending on what we allow to take root. For those who are able to make sound decisions, Jesus Christ has already given direction through His Word for how we should respond.
James 4:7 NLT says, “So humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” That means you are not stuck reacting to every feeling that rises up. You have the ability to choose differently. And in the very moment that you humble yourself and resist what is not from God, something happens—Christ is shaping you. The Holy Spirit strengthens you, steadies you, and helps you stand in a way that reflects Him.
You Were Created to Be Led by Him
John 4:24 NLT tells us, “For God is Spirit, so those who worship him must worship in spirit and in truth.” You are not just emotional—you are spiritual. And your life works best when your spirit is aligned with God, allowing Jesus Christ to lead and your soul to follow. This is where humility comes in. Because being shaped by Christ requires us to be willing to release control and let Him form us beyond what we feel.
For many women, this is where the struggle shows up. There has been a long pattern of letting emotions take the lead—letting them define what’s true, what’s acceptable, and what we stay connected to. But that was never the design. That place of leadership belongs to Jesus Christ alone.
Follow the One Who Knows You
John 10:27 NLT says, “My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.” We are called to follow Him—not our emotions, not our impulses, not the pressure of a moment. Following Jesus Christ means choosing His truth even when our feelings are pulling us in another direction.
He reminds us in Matthew 22:37 that loving God requires our whole heart. That means when emotions rise up and try to take over, we don’t hand our heart to them. We bring it back under the leadership of Christ. You choose faith. You choose gratitude. You choose to trust Him with what you feel instead of being shaped by it.
And in that moment—right there—Jesus Christ continues His work in you. He reshapes what’s been misaligned, strengthens what’s been weak, and brings you back into order. Not because everything around you has changed, but because you allowed Him to lead again within. ■
