Where Do We Go from Here?

Wherever we are in our spiritual walk with the Father through Jesus Christ, He’s calling us to go further—to become more deeply rooted in Christ. God wants us to do this so that we become spiritually stronger, and so that the vision He holds for us becomes clearer. This is so important because some of us are really struggling with this vision. Currently, many believers are not feeling as grounded as we’ve felt in the past. If we’re honest with ourselves, we’d have to admit that we’ve all developed a certain level of predictability when it comes to how God moves in our lives. We’ve all got our little boxes, and we don’t want to step outside of them, so we’ve limited God in a way. We only want Him to do things that align themselves with how we operate within those boxes. Well, we’re now in a space and place where things are not cooperating with our box mentality, and we’re being pressed to figure out how to deal with that.

We’re being challenged in this season to release our hold on the expected, because if we don’t, we’ll be left behind. And whenever it feels that life has gotten away from us, we’ll complain that God has not moved to bless us. The thing that is being presented in glaring technicolor is that something has happened in the spiritual realm. And because we are still operating on a move that took place over twenty years ago, we’re not ready to catch the revelation and grab on to what God is doing now. Again, many of us are struggling with vision, and this is part of the reason we’re feeling lost and displaced on so many levels.

Proverbs 29:18(NLT) tells us, “Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.” Personally, I’ve held this verse profoundly in my heart. One of the reasons that I have done so is because of the distance I’ve had to climb in order to love the Lord the way I do today. My errors have been many, and some of them were unintentionally made. The Apostle Paul said in 1Corinithans 13:11(NLT), “When I was a child, I spoke and thought and reasoned as a child. But when I grew up, I put away childish things.” This is a template that runs in all of us.

In our immaturity, we might read Proverbs 29:18 and think it’s our responsibility to come up with a vision, and that God will stamp it with His approval so we can run with it full steam ahead. When we operate this way, disappointments are swift, and they punch us really hard. Again, we have our boxes and take them to God for Him to make our plans work. Some of us don’t learn until its almost too late that the vision this verse is speaking about is the ability to see the revelation God is revealing. He’s the one with the plan. We must see what HE wants us to see. It’s a revelation from God about what is being done in heaven, and it’s also a revelation about what you and I are purposed to do on earth to facilitate it.

In my naiveté, I didn’t understand that I’d have to surrender my agenda and align my will with God’s Will. I hadn’t comprehended that my willingness to surrender all to Him through Jesus Christ would remove the veil from my eyes. And I certainly didn’t recognize that receiving revelation from God was so utterly important to our lives that without it we perish.

Many of us are quite uncomfortable. There’s craziness happening all around us, and it is even happening in our homes and work environments. In the past, we could go to our boxes and feel better, but not anymore. What our boxes reveal is the degree to which we have expected God to move the way we wanted. He’s been most patient with us, because we haven’t spent a whole lot of time building and working towards what we see the Father doing in heaven. Most of us haven’t even understood this to be our mandate, but indeed it is. Jesus Christ said in John 5:19(NLT) “I tell you the truth, the Son can do nothing by himself. He does only what he sees the Father doing. Whatever the Father does, the Son also does.” In order for Jesus to do what he saw our Father God doing, he had to receive a revelation, and so do we.

Jesus Christ said in Matthew 16:19(NLT), “And I will give you the keys of the Kingdom of Heaven. Whatever you forbid on earth will be forbidden in heaven, and whatever you permit on earth will be permitted in heaven.” In my youthful ignorance, I believed I could walk about decreeing and declaring my heart’s content. Never occurred to me that with keys comes the responsibility to choose the right door. I didn’t fully understand that the rock upon which the church is built is the revelation of Jesus Christ. That through him we can see what the Father is doing and begin to move only according to what the Father shows and tells us.

Some of us have not gotten to this place of obedience, and because of it, we cannot imagine such a place exists. We don’t believe the Father will show and tell us what He is doing in heaven, so we can then fall in lockstep with it on earth. Jesus Christ commanded us to pray this very thing. In Matthew 6:10, he told us to pray that God’s Will would be done on earth as it is in heaven. We, God’s children, the brothers and sisters of Christ, are to execute the Will of God on earth. Jesus Christ told us in Matthew 6:33 to seek the Kingdom of God first and don’t put anything else before it. We must hear from God!

We’ve got a mess on earth right now, and many are asking where we go from here. The answer cannot be found inside our boxes, and this is why you see so many individuals angry, confused, and disillusioned. God has cushioned us for a very long time, but no more. We must seek God like never before. It is time to know what it truly means to walk in the Spirit, to be without worldly crutches and lean totally upon the Lord Jesus Christ for divine guidance and direction. We must catch a glimpse of the revelation God is revealing to us in the spiritual realm. Through our continuous pattern of steps of obedience, God will establish where we go from here, and we must have faith and a revelation of His vision to go where He leads. ■
