Returning to the Life God Intended From the Beginning
God tells us in His Word that He knew us long before we took our first breath. Ephesians 1:4 (NLT) reminds us, “Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us…” That means your existence didn’t begin at conception—your body did, but not God’s knowledge of you. You were fully known, fully seen, fully loved, and fully chosen in the Father’s heart before time itself began.
So when people say, “I don’t know why I’m here,” it’s not because they don’t have a purpose. God already spoke purpose over their life. It’s usually because their soul drifted away from what He already ordained. Sometimes we pick up identities that were never ours to carry, and we start walking down paths that God never laid out for us in the first place.
When Life Doesn’t Flow, Purpose Is Calling You Back
Have you ever watched someone’s life and felt this deep sadness because nothing seems to work for them? It’s like no matter what they try, nothing flows. Nothing settles. Nothing grows. And your heart just aches for them because you want so badly for things to finally turn around. The truth is, God never meant for our lives to be one problem after another. He doesn’t want us walking around heavy, sad, or worn down by life. Our Heavenly Father designed life to be abundant and full. Jesus Christ said in John 10:10 (NKJV), “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” A lot of us know this verse by heart, but we haven’t really connected the fact that walking in our purpose is the pathway to the fulfillment we’re longing for.
God’s Blueprint Creates the Life That Works
A life of fulfilling God’s purpose is revealed in the blueprint Christ left for us. When life consistently feels like no doors are opening, it can be a sign that a person is living outside of the purpose God designed for them. God created everything in the universe to respond to His Will, and when we’re walking in an identity He never authored, life won’t flow the way it was meant to. We end up bumping into walls, unable to elevate, because we’re trying to build a life on a blueprint that isn’t ours.
God allows this contrast on purpose. He sets it up so we can see the difference between trying to build life our way and surrendering to the life He already prepared. Jeremiah 29:11 (NLT) tells us, “For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.”
Purpose isn’t something you chase.
Purpose is something you return to.
You were born with it. You were designed for it.
And life works differently—more smoothly, more clearly, more fruitfully—when you finally step into what God intended from the beginning.
Seek God’s Plan, Not Your Own
What we must do is ask the Father what His plans are for us. We don’t discover purpose by guessing—we discover it by seeking Him. Matthew 6:33 (NLT) tells us, “Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.” When we’re not seeking His Kingdom, we’re automatically seeking our own will. And yes, God understands that we have desires, but those desires don’t always align with who we are in Christ. Sometimes the thing we want the most is the very thing that will derail us. Proverbs 16:25 (NLT) warns us, “There is a path before each person that seems right, but it ends in death.”
Alignment Will God’s Will Makes Purpose Clear
This is why knowing our purpose matters so deeply. We can’t walk in the destiny God set before us if we’re still trying to chase the one we planned for ourselves. But when we are devoted to what God ordained—when we finally embrace the identity He authored—we won’t miss a step.
The Holy Spirit will guide and direct our spirit into all truth, and our soul will follow, aligning with God’s plan. As we walk in this alignment, purpose becomes clarity, obedience becomes ease, and life begins to flow in harmony with the design God wrote over us from the very beginning. ■
