There is no way we can get to the place God desires us to be without taking a brutally honest look at ourselves every once and a while. The goal of doing this is to widen a space in our consciousness that will allow the Holy Spirit to point out a few adjustments. These adjustments are necessary for our forward and upward progression in the things of God. We can become so stuck in our ways, and in our stuff, that we forget there’s a plethora of God’s spiritual goodies outside of the four walls we tend to operate within. We haven’t even scratched the surface of what He has in store. It’s now time for us to begin to make room in our lives for a whole lot more.

In Hebrews 6:1 (NLT), we receive a warning from God through the Apostle. This verse says, “So let us stop going over the basic teachings about Christ again and again. Let us go on instead and become mature in our understanding. Surely we don’t need to start again with the fundamental importance of repenting from evil deeds and placing our faith in God.” We can become so accustomed to doing the same things the same way, that we don’t notice we’re not progressing and growing spiritually. It’s only when we get a big hiccup in life that we recognize we’re losing speed. When this happens, the natural inclination is to want to go back to those things that comforted us during those infant years of believing, and that’s not going to work. We’ll have to reach beyond an elementary level of faith for what lies ahead.

As we get a little older in years, some of us tend to slow down a bit, at least we try to. One of the realities that we will face is that life doesn’t cooperate with our attempt to dial it back. Issues become more complex, time feels shorter, and resources seem to become more scarce than we’re accustomed. We will sometimes make the mistake of thinking that this is the way life is supposed to work. The truth is that life is a locomotive that moves forward at a speed that isn’t set by us. We’d like to think that we control it, but we don’t. So, when we find ourselves unable to keep up, what’s really happening is that we’ve lost valuable momentum, and we need to get it back.

We cannot expect that what worked for us some years ago will continue to do the trick. Where physical agility wanes or diminishes, spiritual agility should increase and supersede. As our years progress, so should our wisdom regarding God’s Word and our dependence on the Spirit. This means that solutions that required physical strength and mental prowess should now be eased over through faith in Christ. Another way of looking at this is that we should use our younger years to store up treasures in heaven for our latter years. This is a preventive measure that keeps life from becoming unmanageable as we journey forward. If you haven’t looked at your life this way, now is a good time to start.

The one thing that we can count on is that things will change; they will not stay the same. God has given us a built-in advantage through the Holy Spirit that indwells us. Jesus Christ declared in John 16:13 that the Holy Spirit will guide us into all truth; he will speak whatever he hears from the throne, and will tell us about things to come. This is from the mouth of Christ. This is God’s Word. It’s an absolute!

Everything that our Heavenly Father does has a reason, a season, and a purpose; and He does not deal in redundancy. It stands to reason, then, that if the Spirit’s occupation is to guide us into all truth, we cannot be guided into ALL truth any other way. If the Spirit’s occupation is to speak what he hears from the throne, then there are some things we will not hear when we need to hear them unless he speaks them to us. God has given us the gift of Holy Spirit because we need him desperately. He’s our friend, comforter, teacher, and guide. We cannot go where we need to go, hear what we need to hear, or see what we need to see without his guidance.

The Apostle Paul tells us in Ephesians 1:11 (NKJV), “In Him also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestined according to the purpose of Him who works all things according to the counsel of His will.” We have a destiny in the Plan and Will of God.

If you’re still at point A at this moment in your life, and your destiny is such that you should be at point C, that’s a problem. Your destiny was etched in stone long before you were born. If you don’t believe you have one, let me assure you that nothing could be further from the truth. Don’t make the terribly detrimental mistake of underestimating the importance of being where God wants you to be WHEN He wants you to be there.

You have a spirit. 2Corinthians 5:17 tells us that it was recreated anew in Christ Jesus. Again, the Holy Spirit lives inside your spirit man. He communicates and communes with your spirit man; this is one of the reasons why speaking in tongues is so incredibly important. If we’re in a place of faith, earnestness, and gratitude to Heavenly Father, we can sense the Spirit’s promptings and hear his voice. Holy Spirit will empower us to be poised for anything that comes our way. This empowerment is manifested through the attainment of increased wisdom and supernatural ability. You simply cannot afford to miss it.

Sometimes, when life continually throws us lemons, it’s a sign that the lemonade has already been made and we’re late to the table; the blessings we so earnestly desire are within reach. We need to get on board with God’s synchronized timing so that we can take hold of the vision He has for our lives, seize those next level blessings, and begin to operate on a higher spiritual level.

God tells us in Acts 2:17 (NLT), ‘In the last days,’ God says, ‘I will pour out my Spirit upon all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy. Your young men will see visions, and your old men will dream dreams.” We are witnessing this prophecy in our time. God’s people are experiencing His glory through amazing miracles, signs, and wonders. Don’t allow yourself to be boxed in and miss out on what He has for you. Let the Spirit take you higher and experience this wonder for yourself.■
