He Will Exceed Your Expectations

The man you think you’ll marry, when everything is said and done, will most likely look completely different than the vision you hold in your head. This is often true with the perfect job, the ideal house or the car you’ll have. Proverbs 19:21(NLT) says, “You can make many plans, but the Lord’s purpose will prevail.” Making vision boards and writing down our dreams and ambitions are very good practices. However, with everything we set our intention to do and have in life, we will be required to expand. Therefore, we must make room in our hearts and minds (and lots of it) for the Will of God to intercede, redirect our vision if necessary, and exceed our expectations.

God’s best is always going to take you higher. During the elevation, sometimes our expectations shift or change, because climbing higher isn’t the easiest thing to do. On the way up, the enemy will attempt to short circuit our expectations. Because of the distractions the devil causes, many of us become impatient and take our eyes off the prize. This is when that sneaky thing called doubt sets in. Our minds begin to change from excited expectancy to low expectancy, and this is how we limit God. He wants to do the exceedingly abundant, but He’s counting on our faith and confession to line up with His limitless power.

When it comes to faith, it’s not only about the husband we will meet one day soon. It’s not the new house with the fabulous en-suite or the luxury car. It’s about the person we will become once God gives these things to us. Jesus Christ teaches us that to whom much is given much is required. With greater blessing comes greater responsibility to God and His Kingdom. Our faith and confession must be aligned with His Will so that we’re saying what He’s saying and doing what He’s doing. But when we let doubt slip in, and lower our expectations, we’re not listening to Him. We’re paying attention to what the circumstances look like instead of what God’s Word says.

This can be the most trying time of our lives, because we just know that God wants us to be blessed and fulfilled, but nothing seems to propel us forward in our pursuit of our dreams. We begin to sink in our hearts, because we don’t understand what’s going on. The truth is that we don’t have to know all the details of what is happening. God has instructed us to walk by faith and not by sight. Our responsibility is to trust Him with everything that is in us.

I know a very nice lady that isn’t a believer in Christ. When hearing about the trouble a co-worker was having, she said to her, “Don’t worry. Things will work out just fine.” I thought to myself, this is such a positive word of encouragement. She said it with such assurance in her voice. If she can believe and console with such positive conviction, how much more should God expect from Christian believers?!

Hold the vision that you have for your life and keep your expectations high. Don’t try to control the details. Jesus Christ tells us in Matthew 6:8 that God knows what we need even before we ask. We need to keep growing closer to God so that we can discern His voice and move according to His Will and Plan. The Holy Spirit is working in you to will and do of God’s good pleasure. Trust God’s process of preparation and know that He’s helping to expand your faith for the next level of growth and blessings.
