God, Do You Have A Man for Me?

“If God has a man for me, why haven’t I met him yet?” This is a question that continues to be asked by many of God’s daughters. For those single and saved, born-again believers, please know that our Heavenly Father is not withholding this blessing from you. How do I know? Because He doesn’t withhold blessings from His people. Psalm 84:11(NLT) says, “For the LORD God is our sun and our shield. He gives us grace and glory. The LORD will withhold no good thing from those who do what is right.” Did you catch that last part in this verse? He doesn’t withhold blessings from those who do what is right. So, we have to ask ourselves a tough question, “Am I doing what is right in God’s eyes?”

I had this conversation with a dear friend not too long ago, and it wasn’t an easy discussion. I get it. People love to hear when they are doing things right, but when they are doing the wrong things, not so much. My friend has been in a relationship for almost a year now. During the beginning, when things were new and fresh, her boyfriend talked a lot about having a future with her, but recently he’s changed his tune. He went from being gung-ho on marriage to not being sure he wants to be married at all. My friend is of course very concerned by his cooling off. So, when I asked her if she had received God’s consent to make an emotional investment in this man, her answer wasn’t a resounding ‘YES”.

The mindset of most people is that they can do whatever they want when it comes to the pursuit of significant relationships. It’s like they tell the Lord, “I got this, God. I don’t need Your help on this one, and if I do, I know where to find You.” Choosing the right person for our lives is one of the most important decisions that we will make in life. Not only will it impact all the other life decisions we make, but it will have a profound impact on our relationship with God through the Lord Jesus Christ. It is precisely because this person will either help or hinder our spiritual growth, that we must be exceedingly careful about this area of our lives.

God’s instruction in Proverbs 3:5-6 (NLT) tells us, “5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. 6 Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.” This does not mean to seek God’s Will some of the time. It means to seek His Will in everything we do, and this includes preparing and pursuing the partner God has ordained for us. There is no such thing as a ‘trial run’ when it comes to partnering. We don’t get to play with the spiritual walk of another individual and cause him to sin just because we’re looking for the right person. That is not of God, and He would never sanction such an action. Moves like these are reckless, and they set us further back. We should avoid them at all costs.

We are Spirit-filled people, and we belong to God. He has set us apart for His holy purpose. This world is not our home. We’re just passing through, and we will only have this one time to do it. So, it behooves us to make the most of our time on earth by pleasing God, fulfilling His purpose for our lives, and by walking in Christ so that we are prepared for all God has in store for us.

Does God have a man for you? Our Heavenly Father would never violate the free-will of another individual but make no mistake, He has so ordered that a man in which He has ordained will choose you as his wife. According to God’s order, as a woman, you are not to handpick this person. Your responsibility is to prepare yourself to be a good and Godly wife. God will see to it that the right man will seek you out, and he will do so when HE is ready for a wife. This man will not use physical intimacy as a bargaining chip, but he will respond to the love of Christ in you with the loyalty and marital commitment that all God’s true daughters deserve. ■
