Big Wheels Keep on Rolling

Life is an ever-moving, ever-changing dynamic. It is a very big wheel, and it is created by God to keep on rolling, no matter what. The sun keeps shining continuously, even if you and I don’t see its light or feel its heat. The earth continues to rotate even if we don’t feel it moving. Of course, most of us know this at a fundamental level, but the reminder of life’s unpredictability and endurance will never be redundant, because most of us, no matter how educated we are, will forget it. We forget how fast things can change and how quickly problems can knock us off our feet. But guess what? Life just keeps on moving. This forces us to face the reality that if we don’t put on our running shoes and keep up with this race, we might get left behind. God doesn’t want us to be left behind. Through the Lord Jesus Christ, He’s given us the power to roll with the big wheel and not be run over by it. But here’s the thing, we’ve got to run like we know we’ve already won the race, and often this is the part many of us miss.

God has made it very plain that life changes. Nothing stays the same, and that’s why we can’t afford to hang on to anything or anybody but God, because everything else is fleeting in life. So, change is inevitable! Although this is often uncomfortable, it ain’t bad news. Quite the contrary. It’s good news, because trouble doesn’t last always.

Change allows us to understand with profound clarity that only God is permanent. Only God is continually faithful to His Word and promises. Humans vacillate constantly. Some of us are hot for God one moment and cold the next, but Heavenly Father doesn’t change. He tells us in Malachi 3:6a(NLT), “I am the Lord, and I do not change.” Hebrews 13:8(NLT) says, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.”  And 2Timothy 2:13(NLT) reminds us, “If we are unfaithful, he remains faithful, for he cannot deny who he is.”

Life, in and of itself, belongs to God. We would not have it were it not for the reality that He has given life to us. Genesis 2:7 tells us that He formed the first man, Adam, from the dust of the ground and then breathed into Adam’s nostrils the breath of life; it was then that Adam became a living soul. Soul life didn’t exist on planet earth before God did this. Since the creation of human beings, people, as many of us can attest, come and go. We are here one day and gone tomorrow. Everything within the planet operates in similar fashion. From this, you and I must realize that the emphasis can never be on the reality that things change, because that’s a given. Our emphasis must forever be on the permanent, unchanging reality of our Heavenly Father; for He will never leave or forsake us, and His promises never fail.

God tells us through the Apostle Paul in Philippians 4:6-7(NLT), “6 Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. 7 Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.” Nothing slows us down like worry. It will bring our lives to a halt. This is why God tells us to not let worry and doubt govern our actions and thoughts, but instead, press into Him in prayer through faith.

Jesus Christ warned that there were going to be some challenges with life, but we must know that we already have the victory over them. People will talk negatively about us, they will try to stab us in our backs, and steal our joy. Precious relationships sometimes fall apart, and we lose people that mean the world to us. Children act up, friends let us down, and we’re sometimes attacked with health and emotional challenges, but we can’t let these things overtake us. We can be steady in the storm because God promises that He’ll give us a peace that exceeds anything we can understand.

Heavenly Father sees the big picture. You and I don’t. He knows how the lives of every living person is supposed to fit into His entire plan for the universe. He has already factored this in and did so before you and I were born. When we worry, we take our eyes off God’s big picture and place them on our problems. This is when our faith starts to run low. God warns us not to look at a problem as though it has power. He’s the One with the power! In Hebrews 12:1-2(NLT), He instructs us to “strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. 2 looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”

Victory wouldn’t be victory if we didn’t have anything to overcome. God designed life to be a big wheel, but through Christ so are we. He created us to roll with life, and to keep getting stronger spiritually as we do. Trouble is designed by the enemy to slow us down and steal our focus, but we can’t let this happen. We should use trouble as a reminder to always look to Jesus Christ and keep our eyes locked on him. Sure, we get tired, but God isn’t finished with us. He will cause all things to work together for our good. So, keep your momentum rolling with life’s pace. Remain faithful, have confidence in the victory Christ has won for you, and always trust God’s promises.■
