The wonderful passage in Proverbs 3:5-6(NKJV) tells us, “5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; 6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.” I’m sure every Christian will agree that this is especially meaningful given the current time in which we live. Heavenly Father has not left us without warning or preparation for these perilous conditions. He warned us about the future in His Word, and the prophecy is being fulfilled. We can’t afford to look to the left or right. Our eyes must be stayed on Jesus Christ, and with our whole heart we must trust him. The Word of God is alive, and it is pulling us to do this. It’s calling out to us to go higher in our relationship with God through the Lord Jesus Christ, so that we are prepared for what He has in store.

We are God’s children, made in His image and called to take up the Cross of Christ and continue what he started. Our mission on earth is the mission of Christ. It is to be a witness to the Good News of salvation, and to share it with others in the way that we live and by the words that we speak. This is God’s purpose, and by this you and I can know a good bit about His nature. God’s nature is love. He loves us and saved us through Christ, and now His love lives on the inside of us.

The love of God in Christ that is operating within is not just sitting in there doing nothing. Colossians 2:13 tells us that God made us alive with Christ! His love is active! It creates! It produces things! God’s love transforms and if we’ll let it, His love will change our desires to match His. Philippians 2:13(NLT) tells us, “For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him.”

We’re ambassadors for Christ, this means that we are to be conduits of God’s love. 1John 4:13-16 The Message (MSG) tells us, “This is how we know we’re living steadily and deeply in him, and he in us: He’s given us life from his life, from his very own Spirit. Also, we’ve seen for ourselves and continue to state openly that the Father sent his Son as Savior of the world. Everyone who confesses that Jesus is God’s Son participates continuously in an intimate relationship with God. We know it so well, we’ve embraced it heart and soul, this love that comes from God.”

There are two things that are common to every human being. Those two things are life and love. They are inextricably linked, and one cannot be achieved without the other. God has given us life from His life, and by accepting Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, God gives us the Holy Spirit; His own Spirit. Galatians 5:25 tells us not only to live in the Spirit, but to walk in the Spirit. Our every action, day in and day out, should be inspired by the Spirit of the Living God. If the Spirit says do this, we get it done. If he says don’t do that, we ought to stay away from it. It’s in God that we move and have our being, so moment by moment we should be surrendering to His Will.

Proverbs 3:7 warns us not to assume we know everything, but run to God and stay clear of evil. This is so important and crucial for the Saints of God in this season, because we’re seeing so many of our brothers and sisters in Christ trying to water down or misinterpret the gospel to suit a political point of view. These folks are not holding the counsel of God sacred, but are weaving themselves in the world fabric, and if they don’t reign themselves in, the enemy will rip them apart.

As God’s sons and daughters, love is our creed. Ephesians 1:4(NKJV) says, “He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love.” To be holy is to be set apart. We are God’s people and our allegiance must be to Him, His Word, and the mission He’s called us to. Our charge is to honor God with all that we own and to give Him our first and best at all times. He has blessed us immeasurably, but there is so much more He desires to put in our hands. If we are faithful to stay the course, we’ll witness His bounty burst forth in every area of our lives. Don’t make the mistake of taking your eyes off of what God is doing in your life and focusing on this world. Be faithful to the task for which you were called, and you will delight the Father and be ready to receive in the season He has appointed. ■
