Don’t Compromise Your Strength in Christ

When What Broke You Tries to Redefine You

Philippians 4:13 (NLT) reminds us, “For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.” That sounds simple—but if you miss what it’s really saying, you’ll miss the power you already carry. This isn’t about pushing through life in your own effort. This is about recognizing that your strength doesn’t come from what you can hold together—it comes from Christ in you. I remember sharing this with a sister who was trying to recover from yet another breakup, her heart worn and her words heavy: “I’m done. I don’t want another relationship.” And if we’re honest, many of us have felt that same kind of finality after disappointment. But feelings don’t get the final say—truth does.

When Pain Starts Talking Too Loud

Heartbreak has a way of making strong women question everything. It can shift your perspective, distort your expectations, and slowly pull you into a mindset where you start to see yourself as a victim of what didn’t work out. But that’s not who you are. As a believer in Jesus Christ, you are not left powerless in any situation. Romans 8:28 (NLT) reminds, “And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.” That means even what didn’t last still served something. So when a relationship ends, it may hurt—but it does not have the authority to define you. You don’t collapse—you realign.

You Gave Too Much—And Not in the Right Place

Colossians 1:16 (NLT) tells us, “Through him God created everything… everything was created through him and for him.” That includes you. Which means your design, your identity, and your purpose were never meant to be rooted in another person. Relationships are an opportunity to express love—not a place to lose yourself trying to hold everything together. And this is where many of us have to be honest. If the ending of a relationship completely unravels you, it’s not just about what you lost—it’s about where you were anchored. Because no human being has the capacity to sustain your soul. That role was never assigned to them.

Strong Isn’t What You Carry—It’s Who You’re Connected To

Some of us were taught—often without words—that our value is found in how much we can manage. Keep the relationship together. Keep the house together. Keep yourself together. We watched women carry everything and call it strength. But Jesus Christ never told us to carry it all—He told us to bring it to Him. Matthew 11:28 (NLT) says, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.” That means what you’ve been calling strength might actually be strain. Real strength is not in holding everything up—it’s in knowing where to lay it down.

We are not strengthened by what we do—we are strengthened by what has already been done for us through Jesus Christ. Proverbs 19:21 (NLT) tells us, “You can make many plans, but the Lord’s purpose will prevail.” So when your plans fall apart, it doesn’t mean your life is falling apart. It means God’s purpose is still standing. His love doesn’t collapse when things don’t work out—it carries you through what didn’t.

Get Up—But This Time, Stand Different

It’s okay to feel it. It’s okay to cry. But don’t stay there. Don’t build a home in a moment God intended for you to move through. You are not empty—you are filled with the love of God through Jesus Christ, and that love is still active, still present, and still able to flow through you. What you experienced didn’t reduce you—it revealed where God wants to strengthen you. So you get up—but not the same way. You get up anchored. You get up clear. You get up knowing that no relationship determines your worth—because your life is already held together in Christ. ■
