Psalms 62:8 (NLT)
“O my people, trust in him at all times. Pour out your heart to him, for God is our refuge.”
It’s funny how we think we can somehow hide from God, the very One who sees everything. As if we can edit our emotions or rehearse our pain well enough to fool a God who’s omnipresent, omniscient, and omnipotent; not going to happen. Jeremiah 23:24 (NLT) says “Can anyone hide from me in a secret place? Am I not everywhere in all the heavens and earth?” says the Lord.” God sees it all—every tear, every thought, every buried fear. So why not be real? Why not show up unfiltered and let Him meet us there?
One of the best things about these modern times is our acceptance and appreciation for this word, “vulnerability.” It welcomes us to lay bare before Him, and He welcomes our rawness. He invites the unedited version of us—the one behind the titles, behind the pretense, behind the “I’m fine.” Psalm 55:22 (NLT) reminds us, ““Give your burdens to the Lord, and he will take care of you. He will not permit the godly to slip and fall.” That means your overwhelm, your disappointment, your confusion—even the silent stuff you don’t have words for. You ever notice how much lighter you feel after a good, honest cry? That’s the kind of exchange God is offering—giving us peace in exchange of the weight of our burdens. But it only happens when we stop pretending and start pouring.
We weren’t created to carry life alone. That’s why salvation matters so incredibly much. It’s not just about heaven—it’s about help now. It’s a declaration that we know we can’t do this without Jesus, and we don’t have to. We don’t have to be strong 24/7. We don’t have to keep the mask on. God isn’t looking for perfect. He’s looking for surrendered.
Jesus puts it plainly in Matthew 11:28 (NLT): “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.” There’s something so tender, so personal, about these words. He’s not shouting from a distance. He’s gently, lovingly, and directly inviting us, Come to me. Not to a system. Not to a formula. Not to another to-do list. All we have to do is come to him. And the beautiful thing? This invitation never expires. It’s open every day, every moment—for the worn out, the overwhelmed, the quietly breaking. All we have to do is come.
So pour it out. Our wonderful Heavenly Father sees the weight we don’t even speak out loud. He’s not moved by your mistakes and missteps. He’s moved by your reach for Him. And when you reach with a vulnerable heart, He shows up every time with peace, power, and the rest that only comes from His presence. ■
