Luke 22:42 (NLT) says, “Father, if you are willing, please take this cup of suffering away from me. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine.” In this intense moment, we witness the vulnerability of Christ as He faces the weight of what’s to come. He’s feeling all the fear and sadness that come with facing such a heavy sacrifice. But even amid that struggle, we see his resolute and beautiful willingness to see his mission of our redemption through. He understands the pain and suffering he has to endure, yet he embraces it out of love for us, showing just how committed he is to fulfilling God’s plan, no matter what it costs him.
It’s a familiar feeling to yearn for God to take away the things that cause us pain. In our moments of sadness, disappointment, and even anger, it can feel like these emotions will linger indefinitely, especially as we navigate the challenges of being single. We often find ourselves trapped in a cycle of negativity, believing that our hurt and longing are permanent states. In doing so, we inadvertently limit our faith, convinced that God doesn’t love us enough to bless us with the desires of our hearts.
Deep down, we crave connection—a meaningful partnership with a good man who is loyal, unwavering in his love, and just as eager for marriage as we are. This desire isn’t just about companionship; it reflects a longing for mutual respect, understanding, and a shared journey rooted in faith. We envision a relationship that nurtures our spirits in this way; one that challenges us to grow spiritually and aligns with the divine purpose God has for our lives.
But we must remember that this longing doesn’t have to be a source of despair. Instead of allowing our emotions to dictate our beliefs, we can turn to God in prayer, seeking not just relief from our pain but also the strength to trust in His timing. As Psalm 37:4 (NLT) tells us, “Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you your heart’s desires.” God knows the depth of our desires and the readiness of our hearts. When we bring our hopes to God, we make room for His amazing, transformative power to work in our lives. It’s in this moment of letting go that we discover real hope—hope that our future is filled with the love we’re searching for and that God is getting us prepared for the blessings we truly desire.
Being of service to someone is an opportunity for a woman to shine in the eyes of God. If it’s not authorized by Him, then it’s not worth the struggle to attain it. Whether it’s a job, a new relationship, or financial increases, you want to ensure that anything new in your life is not a result of your own doing but is completely orchestrated by Heaven above. You may think that’s going a bit overboard, but when it comes to your life, we can’t afford to make mistakes that could be costly and consume a lot of time. As 2 Corinthians 12:9 (NLT) says, “My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.” This is why it’s crucial to lean on God for guidance and not take things into our own hands. As Proverbs 3:5-6 (NLT) reminds us, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.”
As single women desiring marriage, we must be convinced on every level that positioning us to meet the right person at the right time is not too big for God. He can make this happen in less time than a blink of an eye, but He won’t violate His Will and Word to do so. We have a pivotal part to play as well. Jesus Christ said in John 14:15 (NLT), “If you love me, obey my commandments.” This serves as a powerful reminder that our commitment to obedience is crucial and foundational to our faith. Psalm 37:5 (NLT) encourages us, “Commit everything you do to the Lord, trust him, and he will help you.”
By trusting Him and aligning our actions with His purpose, we invite God’s work into our lives. As we walk this journey with unwavering faith, and remain fully committed to His ways and Will, we position ourselves under the overflow of His blessings. We belong to God, and He has promised to take care of our needs. In His perfect timing, we can trust that He will bring the right person into our lives. We must be actively praying to recognize this blessing and prepare our hearts to receive it when it arrives. ■
